Care at home

Visits through the day, in your mum or dad's own home.

From half an hour in the morning to four calls a day, from the same small team of carers, at the times you choose.

Visiting care is the answer when someone is managing at home but not managing all of it. It usually starts with mornings, getting up, washed, dressed and fed, and grows from there as the day asks for more.

We build the rota around a handful of regular faces, because the real value of this is a carer who knows how your mum takes her tea and notices the morning she is not herself.

And the time you book is time spent in the house. Getting between calls is our job to plan, not something that comes out of your visit.

What is included

  • Getting up, washing, dressing and personal care
  • Medication prompting, administering and recording
  • Breakfast, lunch and tea, cooked properly
  • Shopping, laundry and the housework that gets missed
  • Getting to appointments and out of the house
  • Company, and a careful eye on how things are going
  • Respite so a family carer gets a proper break

Who it suits

Visiting care tends to be right when someone is safe at home overnight but the day has become hard work. A morning and evening call is the most common arrangement we provide, and for many families it is enough for years.

If the nights have become the difficult part, live-in care is usually the better answer, and we will talk you through the comparison honestly.

What it costs

From £25 an hour. What moves the figure is how much time is needed and how complex the care is. Everything, including the funding you may be entitled to, is set out on what it costs.

What is the shortest visit you do?

Half an hour, which covers getting someone up, washed and given breakfast. If you want that done unhurried, most families find three quarters of an hour or an hour works better, and we will tell you what we think is realistic at the assessment.

Can you help with medication?

Yes. Our carers prompt and administer medication and record every dose, and that record is there for you and the GP to see. Medication support is part of the regulated personal care we are registered with the CQC to provide.

Can you come more than once a day?

Yes, up to four calls a day, and we can spread them across morning, lunchtime, teatime and bedtime. If the need grows beyond that, live-in care is usually better value.

Do you help with housework and shopping?

Yes, alongside personal care. Collecting prescriptions, the weekly shop, laundry and keeping the kitchen and bathroom right are all part of a normal call.
