Respite care, so you can have a proper break.
An afternoon, a week or a fortnight. Looking after someone you love is a full time job, and taking a break is what lets you keep doing it.
Family carers do the hardest job there is, usually without anyone asking whether they are alright. Respite care exists so you can go to a wedding, have an operation, sleep for two nights, or simply stop for a while.
Because it happens at home, the person you care for keeps their own bed, their own routine and their own surroundings, which is far easier on everybody than a temporary move.
We plan respite properly. We meet you both in advance, learn the routine in detail and write it down, so the week you are away runs the way it would if you were there.
What is included
- A few hours a week, or several weeks at a time
- Live-in cover so someone is there overnight
- The routine learned in advance and followed properly
- Personal care, medication, meals and company
- Planned breaks, and cover at short notice where we can
- Regular updates while you are away, if you would like them
Who it suits
Respite suits any family carer who needs time, whether that is a standing afternoon every week or a fortnight in the summer. It is also what families use when the carer themselves goes into hospital.
A lot of people try it once for a holiday and then keep a few hours a week going afterwards, because the break turns out to be what makes the rest sustainable.
What it costs
From £25 an hour, or £1,250 a week for live-in respite. What moves the figure is how much time is needed and how complex the care is. Everything, including the funding you may be entitled to, is set out on what it costs.

How far in advance do I need to book?
For a holiday, as early as you can, so we can plan the cover and introduce the carer beforehand. For shorter breaks we can often arrange things at much shorter notice.
Can you cover overnight?
Yes. Live-in respite means a carer stays in the house for the whole period, so nights are covered as well as days.
Will you follow our routine?
Yes, and we write it down with you beforehand in as much detail as you want to give. Which mug, which chair, which programme at which time. Those details are what make somebody feel at home.
Can respite turn into regular care?
Very often it does. There is no obligation either way, and no minimum term.
